The main point of my classroom projects is to intergert the most useful and widely used softwares or technology with art. The main reason is the the future of art will be more digital. 

Classroom Project 1: Google Drawing

Creating—Anchor Standard 1: Generate and Conceptualize Artistic Ideas and Work: Media Arts

(2.MA:Cr1) Explore multiple ideas for media artworks through brainstorming and improvising.

California Dreamscape

Concept: Create a fantastical dreamscape using Google Drawings that reflects your unique connection to California.

Tasks:

  1. Brainstorm: List words/images representing California (natural wonders, cities, culture). Sketch thumbnail compositions featuring these elements in a fantastical way.

  2. Digital Artwork: Use Google Drawings tools to create your dreamscape. Explore color palettes, layering, shapes, lines, and text/images (with attribution) to bring your California dream to life.

  3. Artist Statement (1-2 paragraphs): Explain your creative process and the ideas behind your dreamscape. Discuss elements used and their connection to California.

Grading:

  • Concept Development (35pts)

  • Digital Artwork (50 pts) - focuses on Google Drawings skills, design principles, California elements, and visual impact.

  • Artist Statement (15pts) - clarity, California connection, and proper writing.

Differentiation:

  • Struggling students: Focus on strong conceptual development with detailed sketches and a clear artist statement.

  • Advanced students: Challenge yourselves with animation or interactive elements.

Classroom Project 2: Gemini

Creating—Anchor Standard 3: Refine and Complete Artistic Work

California Media Art Standard: (K.MA:Cr3) Form and capture media arts content for expression and meaning in media arts productions.

Reimagining Art with Google Gemini 

Concept: Utilize Google Gemini to creatively remix and reimagine a famous California artwork, exploring themes of form, media manipulation, and artistic expression.

Tasks:

  1. Research & Selection: Choose a well-known California artwork (painting, sculpture, photograph) from a museum website or reputable online art source. Research the artist, context, and any historical/cultural significance.

  2. Brainstorm & Reimagine: Sketch ideas on how you can use Google Gemini to manipulate and reimagine the chosen artwork. Consider techniques like:

    • Fragmentation and reassembly

    • Color palette alteration

    • Incorporation of new elements (text, imagery, animation)

    • Transformation of the artwork's form (e.g., 2D to 3D, vice versa)

  3. Media Arts Production with Google Gemini: Utilize Google Gemini's tools to bring your reimagined artwork to life. Explore its capabilities for image manipulation, animation, and media creation.

  4. Artist Statement & Reflection (1-2 paragraphs): Explain your chosen California artwork and its significance. Discuss how you used Google Gemini to reimagine the artwork and the meaning you aimed to convey through your remix. Reflect on the creative process, challenges encountered, and the effectiveness of using Google Gemini for artistic expression.

Grading:

  • Research & Selection (25 pts) - Strength of chosen artwork, research depth, and understanding of its context.

  • Reimagination Concept (25 pts) - Creativity, originality of the remix idea, and effective use of Google Gemini's potential.

  • Media Arts Production with Google Gemini (35 pts) - Technical skill in using Gemini's tools, visual impact of the final remix, and adherence to the reimagined concept.

  • Artist Statement & Reflection (15 pts) - Clarity, connection to the original artwork and its meaning, reflection on the creative process, and proper writing.

Differentiation:

  • Struggling students: Focus on a simpler remix concept that utilizes basic manipulation tools in Google Gemini. Provide clear examples of remix techniques for inspiration.

  • Advanced students: Challenge yourselves with complex manipulations, incorporating animation or interactive elements. Encourage deeper reflection on the meaning conveyed through their reimagined artwork.
